Midnight City (Eric Prydz Remix) — M83
Two months ago every hipster fashion girl freaked out when Victoria Secret “ruined” Midnight City, their favorite little indie jam, by including it in a winter advertisement. The oldest M83 track in my iTunes is Kim & Jessie from August 2008, the day after 3.1 Philip Lim debuted it between MGMT and The Chromatics for his S/S 2009 New York Fashion Week runway… Just sayin.
The original version is better, but this one goes in the cardio mix.
Just a gentle reminder, on the off chance folks don’t already realize this: The individuals usually responsible for bringing this music into people’s consciousness to begin with, your Bentleys and your Litts and your Richardsons and your Trinidads, are very often the same exact people that are then hired to put them in commercials.
And if they’re not, well, the people that do end up doing it (Elias, Hum, Mophonics, or whoever) are still quite tight with not only the aforementioned DJs, but are feeding from the same PR firehose that keeps KCRW lubricated.
The more you know…
